As the session winds down—tomorrow is the final full day!!—I have been appreciating every day a bit more than the last. Today, the weather matched my mood—drizzly with sparks of sunlight—as I wandered around camp encouraging all the campers on their second-to-last day of activities. I first stopped by the Nature Nook where the Farm and Garden and Earthworks classes were enjoying their time with the Bird Lady who brought in a screech owl, a black rat snake, and a baby frog. I said hello to all of the creatures and then went on my way to the Barn where the campers were racing on stick horses. So funny!
In the afternoon, it was still raining so I stopped by King Arthur’s Court where the Tennis, Landsports, Archery, and Tumbling classes were all playing together in a huge Ping Pong tournament. I cheered on the campers and then peeked into the Music room where the Ukulele class was singing silly songs and jamming on their instruments in preparation for their performance at Campfire tonight.
Tonight’s Evening Program was Closing Campfire, which serves as another reminder than this session, and the summer, is almost over. The three girls that received their bracelets tonight were so happy to be honored for their six summers here, and the whole camp was swaying together by the end of “Linger Longer.” After we all shiney-mindeyed out onto the Swim Docks for the final time to sing Taps together, I snuggled into my treetop bed and hoped to dream of warm campfires and happy campers.
