Today was the final day of the session and I cannot overstate how fast this summer flew by. It will be especially difficult to see these campers leave camp for I know that none will return in their place until next June. We did enjoy our final day at Merrie-Woode, despite the bittersweet atmosphere. In the morning, we were treated to one last camper performance on the Castle Stage. I made my round to as many classes as possible afterwards, saying goodbye to the swimmers and the paddlers and the riders and the bird watchers, the sewers and the archers and the dancers and the tumblers. Right before lunch, we were treated to the Synchronized Swimming mash-up. It was a spectacular show.
In the afternoon, all of the campers joined together to watch the movie Moana while the staff prepped for the biggest banquet of the summer. The Dining Hall was trussed up in the finest of dressings, and everyone gathered for a feast and a show. After dinner was over, everyone gathered back in Castle to watch the session slideshow and to put on a pageant of everything that happened in the session. After all of the traditional goodbye songs were sung and the last candle had been blown out, the counselors and campers went back to their cabins, saving their goodbyes for the morning. As for me, I bid my tearful farewells to everyone tonight and will take my time to prepare for my long hibernation.
