Today was one of the most anticipated events of the session, the Swim and Boat Meet AND the Crew Race! It was a fun day down at the lake with the entire camp gathered on the Swim Docks to participate in the races and cheer on their friends and cabin mates. After the oldest cabins of Bum’s Rest and Camelot had signed up everyone in camp for races in the past few days, the teams of Greens vs Greys competed in events such as the Merrie-Woode Special, the Paddling with no Paddle race, the 100m Freestyle, Butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle, as well as many relay races and other games.
After rest hour, everyone returned to the docks for the reveal of the Would-Bes paddles and the crew skits, presented by the Would-Bes and their crews of 4 in the themes of their paddles. The theme of the event was Hamilton, and the race this year was dedicated to Travis, Travis, Gary, and Jody, the Merrie-Woode Facilities Crew. Everyone had a grand time and was so proud of all 11 Would-Bes.
Tonight’s Evening program was Vespers and the members of Bums Rest shared their reflections and fond memories of their camper summers for one last goodbye. There was not a dry eye in Chapel tonight as the stories and memories that the campers told were universal. The message of the day was to enjoy every moment and to not be afraid to do something new or silly, because someday every camper could be sitting in Chapel with their own Vesper, telling the story we all share—how Merrie-Woode has changed us for good.
