Camp is back in session and a new round of campers has arrived to join us for five weeks of Merrie-ment, frivolity, and fun! I started this exciting day off by waking up in my treehouse home to find that cars were already coming down the camp road at 9:00. Soon, camp was once again filled with the sounds of laughter, long-awaited greeting, and goodbyes to family as the campers moved in for the session ahead. After the swim evaluation and dunk test, the traditional meal of chicken fingers was served and the dining hall was buzzing with activity.
Afterwards, the counselors put on the activity skits to advertise the different classes that the campers could take, including the new Earthworks and Farm and Garden classes. The next item on the itinerary was a round robin rotation of the different age groups to the Boathouse, the Stock Shop, the waterfall field for some Mountaineering fun, and the newly opened Castle for a tour! I hid out next to Castle to watch the reactions of the campers to the new space—the looks on their faces were absolutely priceless.
After the rotation and a good dinner, we all came together for an Opening Campfire, the campfire of which was burning in earnest tonight. I believe the fire perfectly symbolized the atmosphere of the beginning of this new session. The campers are so full of life and readiness and I can already see their sparks igniting the fire within their peers and counselors. Yessir, it is good indeed to be home again.
Wily and full of folly as always,
Tajar
