Keeping Watch O’er the Mountains High

2017_06_18As we come upon the final Sunday of the session, I am filled with great sadness and reverence for the times we have shared so far this summer. Today being Father’s Day made it no different—seeing the fathers and grandfathers of counselors join us for a Chapel service made me even more sentimental. The performances by the ukulele and dance classes as well as Glee Club nearly brought me to tears. After a good lunch of fried chicken and a good long rest hour, the campers set out for their Sunday activities, including line dancing, tie-dye, a scavenger hunt, wall-climbing, and slip n’ slide! I dipped with the line dancers and dyed with the tie-dyers for a bit and then made my way over to the final dress rehearsal of the play. Even in a torrential downpour, the show went on and the cast made it through a very successful reversal. By the end, the sun was shining again and the campers are ready to perform at Evening program tomorrow! Speaking of Evening Program, tonight’s was Follow the Gleam, a pageant put on by the campers who have been to camp for the longest amount of time that retells the story of King Arthur’s Round Table and their search for the Holy Grail. Beginning the day with reverence and coming full circle in the end, all of camp lined up on the docks and sang TAPS together while I sat in the closest tree and sang along as well.

Off to follow the Gleam,

Tajar
