I sure am learning a lot at this Orientation session! The counselors spent all day in the Dining Hall learning the ins and outs of everything about camp traditions, protocol, and perks of the job. They had a very informative session on mindfulness and why it matters, and learned some ways that both campers and counselors can take moments to ground themselves during the excitement of the summer. Some ideas were to savor a good meal, find time to read a book, or, for me, relax in a shady tree and listen to the waterfall. Next up was first aid, and the staff was joined by a familiar face, JP Bevilaqua, to teach the staff everything about keeping campers safe and healthy, from helping clean up a scrape to administering an EpiPen. I know for a fact that the Range Ranger who ranges the ranges in the region is allergic to shellfish, so I paid attention very closely. Instead of dinner, the counselors are heading out to their campouts! I can’t wait to share some gooey marshmallows at Treehouse and sing some song around the campfire at Beaver Valley, but I’m not sure how much sleep I’ll be getting tonight…
