Today was the last Sunday of the session and the Chapel service truly made a mark to signify its importance. The Chapel service today was in remembrance of all of the years that campers and counselors have spent at Merrie Woode and how much it means to us. Passages from the Centennial Book as well as a 1940s camper application were read in honor of the upcoming Centennial Weekend, but there were also many performances form guitar, ukulele, and dance classes in honor of another important day—Father’s Day. Jim certainly was the happiest camper after having so many performances dedicated to him today. We hope you enjoy the Father’s Day photo we took for all of the dads.

In the afternoon, I followed the campers around their Sunday activities. Among the many exciting adventures were a trip to Whiteside Mountain, a triathlon of swimming, paddling, and climbing, climbing the wall in King Arthur’s Court, and making bronze rings in jewelry. The day was hot and the weather held out until cookout, which was Safari-themed, so I fit right in as the most exotic creature to grace the lake front. Tonight’s Evening Program was Follow the Gleam, my very favorite at that. Seeing the campers tell the story of King Arthur and his knights’ of the round table quest for the Holy Grail, the founding of our virtues at Merrie Woode, always kindles a spark inside my furry little heart. This being the Centenniel summer, I can’t help but think back to the very first pageant and the very first set of campers to sing the hallowed words “to the knights in the days of old.” May we all live on to see many more summers of pageantry and virtuosity, and many more young women going on to follow the gleam, even after the camp gates have closed and the candles floating on the lake have finally gone out.

With solace and silence,

Tajar
