The first Tootie Bun Tuesday of the session was a rousing success with half of the camp adorned with two buns that made them resemble my friends the field mice. Today was a nearly cloudless day and the shining sun made me want to stay all day down at the docks which were quite peaceful as the Would Bes were on their first river trip of the session, a clean –up on the Tuck Gorge. Mountaineering was on a caving trip and had a blast exploring muddy Worley Cave.
In the afternoon, I made my way to Castle to visit a ukulele class in the new music room. Afterwards, I took a spin down to the Landsports and Archery field to attempt to shoot some bullseyes and play some World Cup. Back in Castle, the cast of the play was having its first read-thru of the script. All of the campers were sincerely pleased with their roles and I do think that everyone involved will have a grand time during these next four weeks, if I do say so myself.
Tonight’s Evening Program was Slip N’ Slide Kickball, and let me say that it was one of the most enjoyable activities I have ever participated in. From the soapy campers jumping in the kiddie-pool bases, to the competitive campers playing their hearts out, to the counselors cheering on their campers, through it all, I must say that I am always struck by the enthusiasm and joy that the campers jump into everything with. And even now, as I sit dripping with dish soap and water, I can’t wipe the smile off my face.
