As young alumnae of Merrie-Woode, you know the tremendous impact that Camp had on your life and development. The everlasting friendships that you formed, the self-confidence that you acquired, and the virtues of service and self-sacrifice that you hold in high regard have shaped your character and identity.
Recognizing the value that Merrie-Woode brings to so many girls and young women each year, you – our young alumnae – have found a special way to broaden Camp’s impact beyond your own lives. Every October, you challenge yourselves to fund camperships for the upcoming summer – giving the Merrie-Woode experience to young women who would not otherwise be able to take part in the joy of life under Old Bald.
While examining Camp from the perspective of equity and inclusion, we recently identified a need to cover not only the cost of tuition with our camperships, but also certain “hidden costs” of camp for new campers. These hidden costs include essential items on the packing list, including water bottles, rain jackets, and trunks, as well as the cost of travel. In addition, most campers arrive for the summer with beloved items that add to their enjoyment of camp, such as a Merrie-Woode sweatshirt, a pair of Crocs, and a Crazy Creek. We know that these items are important to help all girls feel welcomed into the Merrie-Woode family.
For this year’s Young Alumnae Challenge, we are seeking to raise 3 camp tuitions over 3 days, plus the hidden costs of camp for new campers. Our goal is $19,660, the total cost of three camperships (one for each session of Camp for a total of $16,450) and $1,070 in hidden costs for each of the 3 new camperships ($3,210).
Gifts of any size are important! The most important part of this challenge is that you participate!
Whether it’s $5 or $500, your donation will be crucial to helping us reach our goal. We’re counting on you to help us make the campership experience more equitable and inclusive than ever before!
Thank you for sharing the joy of Merrie-Woode with the next generation of campers!
