The sounds of happy campers and tires rolling down the camp road are practically music to my ears! While I can’t believe we’re already in August Session, I am so beyond excited that the August campers are here! The little gals are both new to camp and seasoned Merrie-Woode girls, and we love both of them so much.
We started off the day with some fun, fun, fun! We watched the Staff Video to show the campers how excited we’ve been for their arrival since May, and we introduced ourselves, did little activity skits, and welcomed the new session’s campers! We completed the Swim and Dive Evaluations (just to be extra safe on the waterfront!), signed up for five awesome classes, and set up our cabins! My favorite part of Opening Day is all of the smiling faces as they see the glorious lake again for the first time this year. We all miss it in our time away…
I take it back. The best part of Opening Day is the chicken fingers for lunch! Tajar looks forward to it for quite some time. I was so sad and lonely over session break waiting for the new group of campers to arrive! I know it’s going to break my heart to watch them depart so soon…why can’t 10 days last forever?
After activity sign ups, we headed around camp for some tours to familiarize ourselves with this beautiful (and big) place! We checked out the Boat House, the Program Office, took a quick trip to the Stock Shop, and walked all around campus to check out all of the great things Merrie-Woode has to offer!
To end the awesome first day, we had Opening Campfire and brought the spirit into the counsel ring to start this session. It’s always so beautiful to have all the girls singing and cheering along to some of our most treasured songs, and then closing out the day singing taps on the Waterfall Field.
Wow, what a day! Although it’s only day one, I can already tell this session is going to be fabulous. It’s my Tajar instincts…and I never doubt them!
