*Crying in Chapel*

Don’t let the title deceive you. A lot of them were tears of joy, but not all of them. We cried out of thankfulness for an amazing session. We cried as the oldest campers reflected on their years spent here in this place of rarest beauty. We cried at how fortunate we are to have each other. We cried because it’s almost over. But trust us; we’re smiling because it happened, too!

Tonight’s Evening Program was one of the most emotional ones we’ve had so far. My weepy self is not ready for Banquet! At tonight’s Vespers, the oldest cabin, Bum’s Rest, reflected on their camp experience. They shared everything from funny stories to spiritual self-growth. I’ve heard these for nearly a hundred years, and it never gets easier. Despite the watery eyes and shaking voices, there’s so much happiness in the program. It’s hard to say goodbye to something we love. And with the way these girls say their final farewells, it’s evident what a positive influence Merrie-Woode has had on their lives. It’s touching to say the least.

On a more upbeat note, the llamas were back! You’ve never seen excitement until you’ve seen a Page camper hear that the Llama Man is coming today! They light up. We learned some new facts about llamas and what foods they can and cannot eat. They’re sensitive little fellers! When we’re near a plant that’s llama-approved, Llama Man says, “salad bar is open!” I laugh my Tajar tail off every time. Ah, some things never get old.

Also, allow me to explain the whiskers on campers’ and counselors’ faces! My cousin, the Wompus Cat, came last night! He sneaks into the cabins under a full moon and leaves a kiss on everyone’s faces in the shape of some whiskers and a dot on their noses!

Some girls on the boat docks brought me back in time to my glory days with their rendition of a sailboat canoe! They used a sail and a make-shift mast to attach the sheets to the canoe, and then they were off. The four person vessel took on an extra crew member as they sailed off into the distance on Lake Fairfield. Hugh Caldwell would be so proud!

Now this’ll make you hungry: brunch on Old Bald! Mountaineering and company hiked up to the top of Old Bald with ingredients to make breakfast burritos. I would’ve eaten the scraps, but they were so tasty, there was simply nothing left. Defeated, I scampered down the mountain and headed to lunch. Luckily, it was ice cream day! Oooo la la… was I content. Although the last week is bittersweet, this made it extra sweet!
