Sundays We’ll Be Together

2018_07_08Today was another lovely day under Old Bald. Sundays, I must admit, hold a special place in my heart, because they’re often the one time that every staff member and camper is together every week. Today, I celebrated this Sunday by eating a whole plate of quiche and cinnamon rolls. At Chapel this morning, we had a very special guest; John Brantley invited us to all take a look around at this place of rarest beauty and take off our shoes to feel the same ground that has been there for hundreds of year. He left us with the crucial message that we are the light and we must all let it shine. Where else to shine so brightly than at Merrie Woode?

This afternoon, I followed around campers as they went off to their Sunday activities. The cast of the musical all piled into vans and, as a special treat, went to see Aladdin, Jr. at the Flat Rock Playhouse. Among other trips were a trip to Silverrun Falls, Maidenhair Falls, and the tried and true Old Bald Hike. On campus, campers got a special visit from the Balloon Fairy, played disc golf all across camp, and slipped and slid down the Inn Site hill. All in all, it was a very exciting afternoon.

Tonight at Campfire, as we sang traditional and silly songs and listened to the wise words of counselors who gave their Vespers tonight, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the hundreds, perhaps thousands, of campers and counselors who have sung the same songs, cried the same tears, and laughed the same laughs inside the campfire ring. Mr. Brantley’s words rang true as the last note of Taps echoed in the trees and the water. Even as the sun had set, I could see every camper’s light shine brightly through the dark.

Still letting it shine,

Tajar
