Wow! How incredible is the Merrie-Woode spirit? Merrie-Woode girls have been responding enthusiastically to camp opportunities for a century; it’s clear the Centennial Celebration Weekend will be no exception!
Due to overwhelming response, a number of our Centennial events have been filled to capacity, and we are now taking names for wait lists. In establishing event capacities the board and staff took into account safety, logistics, and insurance requirements, as well as Merrie-Woode’s unique natural setting. We are now looking for opportunities where we may be able to make adjustments to our weekend plans. We ask for your continued patience as we proceed with this review.
While we understand that it is frustrating to be on the wait list, it is essential for us to capture the full and complete number of people who wish to attend specific events during the weekend. If you are interested in an event which is full, please add your names and the number in your party to the wait list. As people’s plans change, we anticipate that the wait list will begin to see movement. If you have registered for an event and your plans change, please notify the Camp office (annette@merriewoode.com) as soon as possible. If you find that any non-alumnae members of your party would prefer to explore the local area on their own, rather than attend their scheduled events, please let us know so that we can accommodate more alumnae from the wait list.
There are many opportunities to participate in the Centennial weekend beyond the scheduled events. Throughout Saturday, Camp will be bustling with activities, including tours of the newly-rebuilt Castle and King Arthur’s Court, decade photos, a Centennial Book signing, and plenty of visiting with Camp friends. Everyone will want to stop by the Program Office, where visitors will find the best treasures from the brand new Merrie-Woode Centennial Archives on display, including a letter to Dammie signed by Eleanor Roosevelt and priceless camp memorabilia dating back to the 1920s. The official Centennial Archives ribbon-cutting will take place at 11:00 am, and displays will remain open throughout the day. We would not be surprised to see impromptu tetherball matches, scavenger hunts to find your old cabin plaques, and games on the lakeshore. The Stock Shop will be open throughout the weekend, where you will not want to miss limited edition Centennial items.
The capstone of the weekend will be our Sunday Chapel service, with music, traditional readings, scripture, and a celebration of our unique and lasting legacy. Join us as we gather as a Camp family to pay tribute to our past and look toward our future, as we remember, renew, and rejoice. Bring the entire family; all are welcome!
We cannot wait to commemorate this momentous occasion, and we hope to see you in June!
